The Original Little Rascals

This short film sitcom was filmed in the mid 1920s. We, as the more experienced generation( I say that to keep from calling us old) remember Our Gang. These shows were comprised of alot of children trying to live adult lives. Spanky, Alfalfa, Stimey, Buckwheat, Darla and Waldo are just a few of the characters it featured.

"Spanky" Mcfarland walked away from show business to become a salesperson. He rarely appeared on films or television after 1960. While in the sales industry, he invented a motor powered wheelchair for the handicapped. His name for this new invention? "The Rascal". His last appearance as himself was on an episode of Cheers just a short time before his death in 1993.

Matthew 'Stimey' Beard was a bit player in dozens of films and a frequent guest star on a number of television series; including several early episodes of Sanford and Son. He died in 1981.

Allen 'Ferina' Hoskins was the dominate and highest paid star of the series from 1922-1933 but died in obscurity in July, 1980.

Darla Hood became a popular performer and voice-over artist for television. She passed away in 1979.

Tommy 'Butch' Bond could be seen in recent years at personal appearances and celebrity signing events. He died on September 24,2005.

William 'Froggy' Laughlin was killed in a motorcycle accident at age 16.

Robert 'Wheezer' Hutchins Died in a military plane crash at age 19.

Mickey Daniels, an original Gang member from 1922-1933, died a lonely drunk in 1970. He was so completely forgotten that it was over 20 years before his body was identified.

Jay R. Smith (freckle-faced kid) was stabbed to death by a homeless man that he had taken in and befriended.

Darwood 'Waldo' Kaye earned the title of pastor later in life but was run down on a city sidewalk by a hit and run driver. There is some speculation that it may have been an intentional act.

Carl 'Alfalfa' Switzer was fatally shot over a $50 debt.

William 'Buckwheat' Thomas died in 1980, completely forgotten by the industry.

Even the gang's dog, Pete, was poisoned by an unknown assailant.

72 years after the first short as filmed, there was a movie called The Little Rascals released in 1994. Hopefully that will be the final attempt to recapture America's collective innocence through the Our Gang lens.

Shirly Temple

From 1936 to 1938, Shirley Temple was Hollywood's biggest box-office draw. Her dimples enchanted America throughout the Depression. As she grew older, however, her films became less successful and she was more than happy to go to high school and live the life of a normal teenager and young woman.

In 1945 she married actor John Agar and they had a daughter in 1948. She continued making films periodically.; but in 1949 she retired from the big screen at age 21. In that same year she and John divorced. In 1950 she met entrepreneur Charles Alden Black and later they married and had 2 children.

Here are some of her accomplishments over the years:

  • from 1958 to 1961 she hosted children's TV shows and appeared in TV movies for children
  • 1969-She was United States Delegate for the United Nations
  • 1972-she was diagnosed with breast cancer and later went public with the disease to encourage breast cancer screening for women.
  • 1974-1976 U.S. Ambassador for the Republic of Ghana
  • 1976- She became the first female U.S. Chief of Protocol
  • 1989-1993- she was US Ambassador to Czechoslovakia.
  • 1998- She was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Kennedy Center

Now in her 70s, she lives with her husband, Charles, in Woodside, CA. Shirley is involved in various world organizations, including the Institute of International Studies at Stanford University

Full House

Set in San Francisco, the show chronicles Jesse Katsopolis (John Stamos), a young and handsome musician, who is recruited by his brother-in-law, Danny Tanner (Bob Saget). Danny's wife Pam (Jesse's sister) had died in a car accident. Jesse is there to help raise Danny's three daughters, D.J. (Candace Cameron), Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin), and Michelle (Mary Kate and Ashley Oleson). Danny's best friend Joey Gladstone (Dave Coulier), a quirky comedian, is also enlisted in this entourage. A short while prior to Jesse and Joey moving in, Danny's wife (and Jesse's sister) Pamela was killed in a hit and run accident (which later in the series is revealed to be caused by a Drunk driver). Initially, Jesse is uncertain if his life is going in the right direction after making the life-altering decision to help raise the girls. Over time, the three men as well as the children bond and become closer and more loving to one another.

But where are the girls now? Lets find out.

Michelle (Mary-Kate and Ashley Oleson)

Mary-Kate Oleson is an American actress, producer and fashion designer. Following the huge success of Full Housein America, Mary-Kate, alongside her sister Ashley, was able to establish a successful career starring in television and film roles that saw her become an international household name. Founded in 1993, the production company Dualstar was created to produce and merchandise films and TV shows starring Mary-Kate and Ashley, becoming an extremely profitable enterprise. Mary-Kate became joint CEO of Dualstar in 2004, securing her position in the Forbes celebrity rich list.

Since 2006, Mary-Kate has been pursuing acting roles independent of her sister and the "Mary-Kate and Ashley" tag. Her first part was a supporting role in the 2006 film Factory Girl. She has also starred in TV shows such as Weeds and Samantha Who?.

Mary-Kate's personal life has also been the subject of tabloid attention. In 2004 her health and subsequent admittance to a treatment facility for anorexia nervosa were subject to intense tabloid attention. Following the death of Heath Ledger in early 2008 Mary-Kate received worldwide press attention speculating her connection to the case, however she was never interviewed by investigating officers. Her sometimes controversial fashion choices have often found her on both the bestand worst dressed fashion lists, particularly for her decision to wear fur.

Ashley Oleson began studying fashion in earnest in New York and has since gone on hiatus from acting to focus on a fashion career. Among other endeavors she manages The Row, the upscale fashion line she created with Mary-Kate

D.J. (Candace Cameron)

While on Full House, Candace Cameron was also featured in a few television movies. She played an abused teenager in No One Would Tell followed by She Cried No and Night Scream, in which she received starring roles. Cameron has hosted the Nickelodian's Kids' Choice Awards in 1990 with Dave Coulier and David Faustino, and again in 1994 with Joey Lawrence and Marc Weiner, becoming the first person to host twice or more. After Full House came to an end in 1995, Cameron guest starred on such network hits as Cybill and Boy Meets World. Following the birth of her children, she took a self-imposed hiatus from television and film to devote all of her time to her family and children. In the 2000s, she appeared as an interview on the retrospective TV specials I Love The '80s and I Love The '80s Strikes Back, and was one of the hosts of 50 Cutest Child Stars: All Grown Upon the E! network, along with Keshia Knight Pulliam of The Cosby Show fame. In 2006, Cameron guest starred on the sitcom That's So Raven. Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin)

She returned to television by hosting the second season of the show Pants-Off Dance-Off. Sweetin starred in a TV pilot, Small Bits of Happiness, a dark comedy centered around a suicide prevention specialist; it won Best Comedy at the 3rd Annual Independent Television Festival, in Los Angeles.

At age 20, Sweetin married Los Angeles Police Officer Shaun Holguin. Fellow Full House castmate, Candace Cameron, served as her matron of honor, with Cameron's daughter, Natasha, serving as a flower girl. Sweetin and Holguin divorced in 2006.

Sweetin met Cody Herpin, a film transportation coordinator, through friends, and they started dating in May 2007. They were married in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 14, 2007. The couple has one daughter named Zoie Laurelmae who was born on April 12, 2008.

On November 19, 2008, Sweetin filed for legal separation from Cody Herpin. A representative of Sweetin told Life & Style that "She felt this was the way she had to go." On April 20, 2010, the divorce was finalized.

Sweetin wrote a memoir which is under contract with Spotlight Entertainment and chronicles her downward spiral of alcohol and drug abuse that began with the ending of Full House. The book, titled unSweetined, was released November 3, 2009.

On April 30, 2010, Sweetin's representative confirmed that she and her boyfriend of one year, Morty Coyle, are expecting a child. On August 31, 2010, daughter Beatrix Carlin Sweetin Coyle was born.
